Making Soup

We received our delivery of fruit and veg and with Mr I don't eat anything showing a great interest in it's arrival I was thrilled. we got out all the differen't fruit and veg and talked about what each one was, it's colour and if it was a fruit or veg. We decided it might be nice to make a big pot of vegetable soup while eating a fruit salad plate! (every mummy's wish - but will he eat it - that is the question)
When we got the veggies ready i realised that there really aren't any jobs for an almost 3 year old to do when making soup, so he set about making his own!

Master N got busy measuring and weighing his ingredients. Using some plastic pegs as his veggies and picking matching colours for the said veggies. He added some pasta as I did and some shells as a special touch.

He was still going while i was finished and all washed up....pouring mixing and re-weighing. What fun....what a mess!

Oh and did he eat the real one?

No! But was very keen for me to give some to his baby sister!

Threading

Another for the fine motor skills, threading! We dyed some tube pasta in different colours last week and tried to thread them onto shoelaces with not alot of luck...so on a trip to the craft store we bought some plastic needles and wool. Perfect.
I was totally amazed that Master Nate could not only thread these with utter ease but could thread the needle, now I know who to call if I'm having trouble. We made necklaces for granmas and aunties and I had to wear mine out to the shops.

After years of sending kids home with these from pre-school and watching mums not so keen to leave the premises with them on I was the one who had to go out with some gorgeous home made jewelry! It really did make my day as much as Master N's.
To continue on and I can't remeber where I saw it but at breakfast we decided to thread cherios onto pipe cleaners....one on and one in(the mouth).

Wet washing hanging on the line!

We bought some little pegs (inspired by Childhood 101) and decided to use them to display our art work on a line in the lounge room. Master N was intriged and wanted to keep taking the pictures on and off. I decided to set up a clothes line one morning put out the pegs and some of Princess P's things and see what happened. What a great morning of on and off and on and off. It was great for fine motor skills and also inspired some fun imaginative play. The clothes line stayed up for a whole week (till I couldn't stand it anymore) and it is still missed! We might bring it out again some time soon.

D says Duh

We made it 20 baths in a row, not an easy task in this house! So to celebrate there was a gift purchased at the toy sales. As the alphabet is a firm favourite around here we bought a leapfrog letter recognition thingamagic and have been playing with it ever since.
"D says duh D says Duh all the letters make a sound and D says Duh"
To add to the fun we pulled out our alphabet book we got at the playschool concert. At each page we stopped to look at the letter, find the matching one and check it in the thingamagig to see if we were right. Then the letters got lined up in order....this went on for a good while. Didn't make it through the whole alphabet but daddy was shown our new game when he got home from work.

Washing the car

It's hard to explain the joy I felt watching my boys work together washing the car...wow Ryan is the dad in the picture. If that is the case we are parents. Many days I still don't believe that the dream we had for so long really has come true and not just once but twice.
Such a simple thing like watching the boys wash the car together makes me smile from the depth of my being!

My own Scissors please

Master N has taken a fancy to my big scissors and although I'm happy for him to use them under full supervision I worry if I have to attend to Miss P sooooooooooooo we got him his very own pair and now he is one very happy camper.

I am constantly taken back to my pre-school class room where I would teach to hold the scissors by saying " keep the thumb at the top, he's the boss" this so often worked for me but I think mummy is going to have to find a differen't way to get Master N to get the hang of it....he isn't 3 yet so we'll just wait and see!

BIG numbers turn into Clocks!

We have been playing with our BIG numbers this week...so cold that many days have been playing in our PJ's till well into the morning.
Lots of counting going on with our reward system for baths in full swing...so we can count upto 25 but how about number recognition.
Decided to go into my bag of tricks and pull out the big numbers. I was acctually surprised that N was able to recogise almost all 1-10. A little mix up with 6 and 9 but wwho wouldn't.
"Like on the clock mum"
So we pulled out a clock and tried to orgainise the numbers like a clock.

This has opened up such a topic of conversation for us. Asking everyone what thier favourite numbers are, reading house numbers when we go visiting even the speed limits "mum that is a 4 and a 0 on that sign".

Clever munchkin....what does 3 have in store!

When home sick why not start a hospital!

Well Winter has arrived and along with it trips to the doctor and the dreaded cough and cold. So along with real trips to the doctor we set up a hospital in the lounge room.
"Mummy I have a sore leg, you need to fix it"
SO I decided to get a bandage to add to our imaginative play and of course one bandage wasn't enough.

I love that since Nate was very little the doctor has been impressed with how happily and well he does as asked. Happily lets the dr looking in his ears, say aaahhhh, and coughs at all the right times. The Dr kit has definatley been one of our fav props for play.

SO much fun, so much laughter........I love my Job!

Balloon Tennis

With Daddy's passion being tennis it was no surprise it would be something we did in our family often.....even if mummy has two left hands! What fun we had playing lounge room tennis for our Friday night activity this week. With miss 5month old looking on the lounge room became the court and master Nate must take after daddy with that amazing back hand.

All you need is some space, a balloon and some wooden spoons! Have fun

In honour of the world cup - we continued with our balloon sport and set up some goals for some kicking practice.

More May madness

Balloons are always a hit in our house, so I thought why not use them for craft. I haven't done this since my days at pre-school with the kids and was sure Nate would enjoy it. I set out the table and when Nate saw it he was very excited - we did page after page of "a splotch over here, and a splotch over there" singing as we went.

We were experimenting with colours this week and tried out an Experiment with milk, food colouring and a spoon for mixing.

First to fill the glasses with milk - "what are we doing mum?" the anticipation growing

Then we added the food colouring, a drop in each glass. First was red and yellow leaving a glass in the middle. Then we added one of each to that glass and made orange. Next was to do a blue and then mix blue and yellow in the glass between them..."wow mum green". Finally then blue and red together to make purple.

It was fun just mixing a bit here and a bit there of all the colours. we ended up with a selection of nice browns!

May fun and games

Although the weather hasn't been too exciting we've been very busy and enjoying life!
I made the mistake of promising that we could do some painting with our feet and we got busy so when asked at 5pm on a friday afternoon if it was the right time, I had no choice but to keep my promise.
Once all set up Mstr N decided he didn't want to get his feet dirty so we improvised and did some great painting with the wheels of cars, our hands, printing with shapes and when daddy got home we also did some fruit prints with apples!

We have been talking alot about Skeletons and Dinosaurs and planned a trip to the museum to check it all out. Mstr N not so keen on large sounds or the huge dinosaurs so stayed firmly in daddy's arms. Piper oblivious to it all enjoyed her day up, out and about in the baby bjorn smiling at everyone who even looked her way.
Some great discoveries to be made looking through magnifying glasses and into the draws of the museum. What a great family day out.
